For over 50 years, Living History Farms has been educating and connecting all peoples to the many stories of Midwestern rural heritage through hands-on, interactive experiences. Set on 500 acres in Urbandale, Iowa, this outdoor museum re-creates the daily routines of 300 years of agricultural history with three working farms sites and the historic 1876 town of Walnut Hill.
General touring is open Tuesday-Saturday, May-October, with special events such as Emancipation Day, Independence Day, Grain Harvest, and Applefest held annually. Preschool storytime, school field trips, historic skills classes, historic dinners, and day camps offer education and fun for all ages year-round.
